It’s coming up on Mother’s Day, which means I’m actually probably late for doing a shopping guide. All the organized bloggers probably did this months ago, with amazingly curated lists of beautiful items thanks to great brand collaborations and whatnot. However, I have barely had a moment to breathe thanks to hectic work deadlines and a little girl who has decided that she doesn’t want to go to sleep early or sleep in later than 5:45 am. I told the husband that he needs to make a big deal out of the Mother’s Day, though, and I promised that I’d give him a list of all the awesome geeky gifts that I’d like.

I mean sure, he could always just get me some Lindt chocolate – you know, the red ball thingies that melt in your mouth and are ridiculously delicious. But I figured I’d use this as an excuse to basically just window shop online. Besides, maybe I can make this list once and just retool it when it comes time for my birthday or some other special occasion that warrants a nice present. So, if you’re Dean, just read on below. If you’re anyone else, please be advised that there are affiliate links and stuff, so big disclaimer – I might make some money if you buy these cool things. And, without further ado, here are some ideas of what to buy other cool, quirky, geeky ladies who maybe like the same things I do. Continue Reading

My Mother’s Day established a new Mother’s Day tradition

Mother's Day Tradition

I had a seriously eye-opening Mother’s Day. It was intense and emotional, but also pretty transformational – what I did first thing in the morning on a day all about celebrating moms is definitely going to become a Mother’s Day tradition for me. But first, let me back up and tell you how it all came to be.

You see, I was approached for the Cape Town Embrace campaign, and I wrote about it a few weeks back. I wrote all about how even with all the love, support and help that I had as a new mom, it was still so daunting, so scary. And I encouraged all of you to take part in this idea of visiting moms on Mother’s Day. We’d reach out and encourage them, make their day a little brighter and generally just welcome them to the mom tribe. But there was one problem. I had no idea which hospital I’d be going to or what it would be like. So I felt like a total hypocrite, telling everyone to do this and not even sure how I would manage to do it. Well, the amazing Sharon from The Blessed Barrenness stepped up and organized for us to visit Charlotte Maxeke hospital on Sunday morning, and I was blown away. Continue Reading

I had the best first Mother’s Day

Baby with controller

I was so excited for Mother’s Day this year, because it was my very first as a mommy. I’ve always enjoyed Mother’s Day as a day to treat my mom, to make her feel special and hopefully make sure she knows just how much I love and appreciate her. That’s why for my first Mother’s Day, I was so happy that she was here, able to celebrate with me. Obviously Harley is too young to know what yesterday meant, but it was still such a special day. While I was spoiled with delicious treats, it was something else that made it such a special day.

Despite being in the early stages of teething, and struggling with intermittent pain the past few days, Harley was remarkably delightful yesterday. She was full of smiles and laughs, enjoying all her time with her mommy and daddy, her omi, her granny and grandpa, her auntie Kelly, and her godparents. She was so adorable, and we had glorious cuddles and fun together. Becoming a mommy has been such a crazy journey, and it’s only just begun, but my first Mother’s Day just solidified that this was truly the right life choice. Continue Reading
